As a member of Mega group we want to share with you, our colleagues, something new in our practice.
One we asked ourselves a question which came out after a deeper look of the place we work in. In our warehouse we usually use bags and packages that are made of polyethylene, while we re-pack the goods when we prepare an order. They are polluting the environment mainly by their long term of decomposition. We also use wooden pallets and a lot of trees are being cut down for their production. As normal people we buy plastic wares that we throw out after we use them, just to make our lives easier, without even thinking about the nature.
Then we started thinking about the things we can change, how to achieve them and what the effect would be. We agreed that separating the wastes for recycling is simply not enough. We came to the conclusion that in order to find the answer we can organize a competition among the staff of Hydrostab for the second time. The object was finding an alternative to polyethylene bags. There were two conditions for entering the competition - the propositions must be ecological and economical. In contrast to the first competition in the second there were a lot more people who participated and everyone was very enterprising, suggesting different and interesting solutions like putting separators in the boxes for example, tying up the products with cable ties or using plastic boxes/cassettes for multiple use, which the customers have to return after the delivery. The approved suggestion was to start using "degraethylene" bags or oxo-biodegradable bags made by special technology .Totally Degradable Plastic Additives: TDPA™ based technology enables products made from polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS) to degrade and, in most cases biodegrade. The positives are that we don't have to change our way of work and their cost is only 15-20% higher. Two competitors gave this idea so we had two winners - Vasil Gudalov and George Hristov. Both of them received a 7″ Philips photo frame as a prize and both of them were very grateful!
We have big expectations from this novelty and in order to popularize the "Green Idea" among our colleagues and clients and to make a stand for our position as citizens, we will start putting stickers on the boxes, showing that we work with ecological materials. |
